INTERNATIONAL CALLING CARD

A postpaid or a prepaid Calling card usually resembles a credit card. Such cards can either employ prepaid credit system or credit card style system of credit. The exact system for payment, and the way in which the card is used to place a telephone call, depend on the overall telecommunication system. Currently, the most common types of telephone cards involve Prepaid Phone Cards in which the card is purchased with a specific balance, from which the cost of calls made is deducted. Pre-paid phone cards are disposable. When the balance is exhausted you simply buy a new phone card. Cards purchased can often be refilled. The international prepaid SIM card gives cardholders the convenience of global roaming and one phone number. Both types are also available in a non prepaid variety; here, phone calls are billed to clients in much the same way that a regular telephone service provider bills clients placing long-distance telephone calls. In recent times, calling card service providers have gone one step ahead in reducing the costs and increasing convenience by introducing calling accounts. Calling accounts eliminate the need for printing of a physical card; accounts are available only in electronic form. Calling accounts can be purchased over the Internet using credit cards and are instantly delivered to the customer via e-mail. This e-mail contains the PIN and instructions for using the service.

Do you carry calling cards while travelling?

The trend of using prepaid calling cards, or global / world calling cards, while travelling is catching on. While buying the local SIM after reaching the destination may seem to be the ideal option, global calling cards could have an edge as you needn’t have to wait to get your card activated. Telecom companies claim such cards could help users save 80-90% over international roaming But, there are certain points that you need to keep in mind. These cards cannot be recharged. Besides, some operators do not allow domestic calls within certain destination countries. You also need to go through the list of countries you can make calls to. If you happen to lose your card, it will neither be replaced nor will the unused balanced be refunded. It is very important to memories the PIN provided to you as there is no way of retrieving the same. You also need to check for any surcharge that may be levied if calls are made from payphones, hotel/hospital and so on. Thus, you could very well opt for such calling cards for the sheer convenience that they offer, but it would be worth your while to study the features carefully to get the most out of your calling card.
