Do you carry calling cards while travelling?

The trend of using prepaid calling cards, or global / world calling cards, while travelling is catching on. While buying the local SIM after reaching the destination may seem to be the ideal option, global calling cards could have an edge as you needn’t have to wait to get your card activated. Telecom companies claim such cards could help users save 80-90% over international roaming But, there are certain points that you need to keep in mind. These cards cannot be recharged. Besides, some operators do not allow domestic calls within certain destination countries. You also need to go through the list of countries you can make calls to. If you happen to lose your card, it will neither be replaced nor will the unused balanced be refunded. It is very important to memories the PIN provided to you as there is no way of retrieving the same. You also need to check for any surcharge that may be levied if calls are made from payphones, hotel/hospital and so on. Thus, you could very well opt for such calling cards for the sheer convenience that they offer, but it would be worth your while to study the features carefully to get the most out of your calling card.
