INTERNATIONAL CALLING CARD

A postpaid or a prepaid Calling card usually resembles a credit card. Such cards can either employ prepaid credit system or credit card style system of credit. The exact system for payment, and the way in which the card is used to place a telephone call, depend on the overall telecommunication system. Currently, the most common types of telephone cards involve Prepaid Phone Cards in which the card is purchased with a specific balance, from which the cost of calls made is deducted. Pre-paid phone cards are disposable. When the balance is exhausted you simply buy a new phone card. Cards purchased can often be refilled. The international prepaid SIM card gives cardholders the convenience of global roaming and one phone number. Both types are also available in a non prepaid variety; here, phone calls are billed to clients in much the same way that a regular telephone service provider bills clients placing long-distance telephone calls. In recent times, calling card service providers have gone one step ahead in reducing the costs and increasing convenience by introducing calling accounts. Calling accounts eliminate the need for printing of a physical card; accounts are available only in electronic form. Calling accounts can be purchased over the Internet using credit cards and are instantly delivered to the customer via e-mail. This e-mail contains the PIN and instructions for using the service.

Do you carry calling cards while travelling?

The trend of using prepaid calling cards, or global / world calling cards, while travelling is catching on. While buying the local SIM after reaching the destination may seem to be the ideal option, global calling cards could have an edge as you needn’t have to wait to get your card activated. Telecom companies claim such cards could help users save 80-90% over international roaming But, there are certain points that you need to keep in mind. These cards cannot be recharged. Besides, some operators do not allow domestic calls within certain destination countries. You also need to go through the list of countries you can make calls to. If you happen to lose your card, it will neither be replaced nor will the unused balanced be refunded. It is very important to memories the PIN provided to you as there is no way of retrieving the same. You also need to check for any surcharge that may be levied if calls are made from payphones, hotel/hospital and so on. Thus, you could very well opt for such calling cards for the sheer convenience that they offer, but it would be worth your while to study the features carefully to get the most out of your calling card.

FTC to keep a check on prepaid calling cards

There was an complaint in the past from readers that they're not getting the promised minutes on their prepaid calling cards, and it seems that the Federal Trade Commission agrees there is a problem.
The FTC has asked a federal judge in New Jersey to order a halt to the alleged illegal practices of CTA, a major distributor of prepaid calling cards across the country. In the last quarter of 2007 alone, CTA's revenue from the sale of cards exceeded $28 million, the FTC says. It accused the CTA of misrepresenting the number of calling minutes consumers get, failing to disclose that consumers' cards will be charged whether or not the calls go through and charging hidden fees.

Choose US to India Calling Cards

US to India calling has now become easier and cheaper. Calling cards are best option if you have to make phone calls to India on frequent basis. The prepaid calling cards are affordable by every body and one can select the card to be used according to your pocket budget.

You can find many telecom companies around offering international calling cards services, and specifically for US to India calling too. So, there is also a variation in the calling card rates. thus, best is to differentiate the rates before buying calling card.

Browse on internet, you will come across various offers. Moreover, while looking for a prepaid calling card try to avoid things that mention “rates may change without prior notice”, “connection fees”, or asking other charges. So, select a card that has less terms and conditions, cheaper call rates and also read some reviews if possible, before choosing one.

Calling cards are available at any corner stores, rail terminus and bus stations, grocery shops etc.
Nowdays many operators have started offering online recharge facility. One I know is Airtel Call Home.

The process of activation of the card is easy. Just dial a toll free number and follow the said instructions and your account will be credited in a blink if inserted the personal identification number (PIN). For any assistance dial the customer care centre number. These types of phone cards have minutes already paid in advance. The prepaid sim cards also give the roaming facilities. The other benefits that US India Calling Cards carry are: a starter air time credit, free incoming calls, reasonable outgoing rates in comparison to post paid charges, its slender size and easy to carry with and text messaging services and a lot of free talk time and offers during festivals.

Mobile network operators in 2008

A worsening global economic environment and pressure on business and consumer finance will have a negative effect on the mobile market in 2008. In the short term, this implies that the market will, at best, experience a slow start. This new reality, in which the heady days of market growth are over, is a depressing outlook for mobile network operators (MNOs). In their maturing businesses, they will need to focus on increasing their revenue and reducing their cost and investment profiles. Analysys Research anticipates that a number of mobile players will take a critical look at their major capital and discretionary spend.Retrenchment and restructuring may well follow, and there could be a number of casualties. Below, we outline our views on the evolution of three key areas for MNOs over the course of 2008.
